History

1975:
Penn-America Insurance Company was founded by Irvin Saltzman and traces its roots to the general agency he founded in 1947.
1976:
Officially opened for business and the first policy issued was effective on July 6, 1976 for a total premium of $35.00.
1977:
Written premium grew to more than $1 million.
1993:
Offered shares of stock in a newly formed parent company, Penn-America Group.
1997:
Completed a successful secondary offering, which positioned the company for future profitable growth.
2002:
A trust-preferred stock offering and a secondary common-stock offering added $38 million in additional capital.
2005:
Penn-America Group became a subsidiary of United America Indemnity, Ltd.
2010:
To better reflect the parent company’s expanding strategic vision, a new name
- Global Indemnity plc - was selected replacing United America Indemnity, Ltd.
2016:
The parent company becomes Global Indemnity Limited, replacing Global Indemnity plc.
2020:
The parent company becomes Global Indemnity Group,
replacing Global Indemnity Limited.
